With the Huskies Men’s Hockey season coming to an end in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Senior Forward Sam Hentges has elected to forgo a potential fifth year with SCSU and sign a two-year entry level deal with the Minnesota Wild. Hentges, a Minnesota native of Totino-Grace, was selected in the 7th round of the 2018 Early Entry Draft with the 210th overall pick.
The Senior forward has pieced together a storied career in his time at St. Cloud State. Hentges competed in a total of 114 games with 83 career points (37-46-83). This season Hentges joined fellow Husky Nick Perbix in the Beijing Winter Olympics with Team USA. In the few weeks span with Team USA, Hentges appeared in two games and scored in the quarterfinal round on an assist from Perbix.
Throughout the last four years with St. Cloud State, Hentges skated his way to a pair of NCHC weekly honors, one monthly honor and was a scholar in the classroom with four Academic All-conference honors. The entry level deal with the Wild will start in the upcoming 2022-23 season. Hentges is the second Husky to sign to the pro level following the conclusion of the season with David Hrenak also signing to the Los Angeles Kings.
