Indoor track and field NCAA nationals took place in Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas on March 11 to 13. Parker Buske and Hannah Arason took the next step and qualified for the indoor championship season going to the nationals! Buske qualified for triple jump and Hannah with pentathlon. Before they left for the road, Buske said: “I am just super grateful to just be there and be in that competitive aspect.” Buske never thought she would make it to the Nationals during this year, but it was still her goal for senior year. She is right now a junior athlete, and she is doing her bachelor’s in Graphic Design. At the meet, she got into 9th place doing 12.22m on the triple jump. To be her first nationals she did incredible, and she succeeded her goals for the indoor season.
Not only that, but Buske earned NCAA Second All-America honors after her performance at the meet. Buske is extremely excited for the outdoor season, she still wants to make progress on the triple jump and overpass her personal record. For her, that she already has been on indoor nationals, her season goal for outdoor will to qualify and represent the huskies on triple and long jump. Buske said: “everyone was really supportive; I was really happy that my parents could make it and see me succeed in the sport that I grew up with”.
Hannah Arasan is on her fifth year, she transferred from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities to St. Cloud State University. She is currently doing her masters on Communication Science and Disorder. This is her last year of eligibility; she got this chance because of COVID-19. For Hannah, this is the first time she qualifies for Nationals on NCAA on the pentathlon. She did the mark on January 26, finishing in that meet 3rd place nationally. She wasn’t sure she was going until Sam told her right after the meet ended, Hannah got extremely excited, a lot of anxiousness because it was the first time, and super grateful for the opportunity. “The whole experience was super incredible, I needed to pull out on the fourth event, long jump. My ankle started to hurt, and I couldn’t finish the last event that it was the 800m,” Hannah said. Both Sam [head coach] and Jarren [athletic trainer] were incredibly helpful providing resourceless to get her healthy as quickly as possible so she can compete at her best ability at nationals so she could have this experience that not a lot of athletes get to do. For her experience and suffering these complications she couldn’t finish her pentathlon event.
-=Besides that, she did her best to represent the track and field team and the huskies, and she is incredibly happy to do. Hannah is looking forward to the outdoor season even though it is cut short because of the injury, she will be returning to compete late April. Hannah is staying healthy and taking care of her ankle to succeed this upcoming season. She has extraordinary goals on returning to outdoor nationals and receiving an All-American Honor.
