The St. Cloud State women’s hockey team fell 7-0 to the Minnesota Gophers Friday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
The Gophers came to play in full force, out shooting the Huskies 32-17. By the end of the first period Minnesota had put four pucks past senior SCSU goaltender Katie Fitzgerald. St. Cloud showed up strong in the second period, putting 10 shots on the Gophers netminder, creating multiple scoring chances. Through the second 20 minutes of play, the Gophers extended their lead 6-0.
The Huskies still battled on, showing strength again in the third period, skating pucks into their offensive zone and only allowing the Gophers to score a final lone goal, making it a 7-0 game. St. Cloud has struggled against the Gophers this season and hope to make an impact in their final meeting of the regular season Saturday afternoon.
The loss leaves St. Cloud with a 11-10-3, 7-9-3 WCHA record. The home series against the University of Minnesota continues on Jan. 23 at 3:07 p.m.
