Spring Semester 2016 A&E Preview

This semester looks like it going to be a good one just by taking a look at the upcoming events at SCSU. When it comes to arts and entertainment this semester is packed full of concerts, festivals, and performances. Here are some of the big events to watch out for if your looking to enjoy a some live music or theater.

02/06 – Big Sing Concert – sponsored by the American Choral Directors Academy, this concert will feature approximately 200 high school and collegiate choral musicians.

02/12 to 02/14– KVSC’s Trivia Cruisin’ 2016: Racing, Road Tripping, and Rock & Roll is the next extension of KVSC’s 37th Annual trivia weekend, according to their website, this trivia competition will be a “50 hour road trip down route 88.1.”

02/21 – MN Made Festival – This 3rd annual unique festival incorporates robotics and electronic music and is hosted by SCSU’s Dr. Scott Miller who according to the department of music’s website is known for his electroacoustic music pieces. Last year robotics and music were combined for an exciting technological musical experience, this years events looks promising.

02/22 – Creative Arts Series: “QUATS” – In the next extension of SCSU’s creative arts series filmmaker Godfrey Reggio will be showing his “QUATS” film trilogy, according to the school of arts website Reggio is know for his unique style that “creates poetic images with extraordinary emotional impact.” There will be a Q&A session with Reggio after the showing of the last film.

03/07 Electroacoustic Artist – Christopher Jette – According to The University of Iowa’s School of Music website, he is a 2015-16 Grant Wood Fellow and a visiting assistant professor of music who is also a new media artist.

03/18 Piano Guest Recital – Stephen Drury – American Pianist and conductor Stephen Drury will be coming to campus to perform for the public, according to Drury’s website, he has performed internationally and knows how to perform everything from the classics up to the music of today.

03/20 – Winter Winds Concert – The SCSU wind ensemble will be holding their spring semester concert in Stewart Hall, under the direction of Dr. Catherine Bushman.

04/01 – SCSU’s Percussion Blowout Event – This all day percussion festival will be running from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., more details are to come as the event gets closer.

04/19 – 04/23 – “Hair” The musical – According to their website the St. Cloud State theater department is putting rock music and the culture that went it on stage, in their performance of the Broadway classic.

04/22 – Woodwinds Studio Recital – Featuring the SCSU woodwinds this concert will featured the flute, clarinet, saxophone, and obo, and provide an opportunity to enjoy classical woodwind music.

04/26 – Her Story Her Song Concert – According to the creative arts series website, this performance is designed to give the audience a glimpse into life from a feminine perspective.

04/29 – Student Film Festival – This will feature the best of the past and present of SCSU filmmakers short films and will feature the filmmakers and actors in attendance at the showing.

Other events to pay attention to are: the SCSU department of music student and faculty recitals, as well as the events hosted by UPB, like Open Mic Night, Coffee house, or Atwood after dark. As these performances come closer more details are sure to be coming out.
