Men’s Tennis Sweeps the Doubleheader

The men’s tennis team faced a doubleheader on Saturday Feb. 27 in Sartell at the Fitness Evolution Tennis Center. St. Cloud State faced off against Carleton College at 10 a.m., and then faced off against Augustana University (S.D.) at 5 p.m.

The men’s tennis team entered the day with a three-game winning streak and an overall record of 3-1. On Feb. 21 the men’s team played Concordia College (Minn.) in Sartell and defeated them 8-1.

Tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Carleton College. It was another solid performance by the whole tennis team as they continue their hot start to the season as they moved to 4-1 on the season.

In the doubles competition the SCSU men’s team swept the Carleton team by winning all three matchups thanks to the pairs of Marcelo Locatelli/Joao Souto, Odyr Cruz/Pau Martin Sole, and Nathanial Cherry/Jacob Cersosimo.

The singles competition saw the SCSU men split the six matchups by winning three games. Marcelo Locatelli, Pau Martin Sole and Lucas Norbiato all earned wins in their single matchups helping the SCSU team to victory.

St. Cloud State tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Augustana University in the second part of their doubleheader. With the victory, the Huskies continued their win streak to five games and improved to a 5-1 record on the season.

The Huskies got excellent performances from everyone on the team and their confidence grows with their strong play and excellent results.

In the doubles competition the Huskies were able to complete the sweep of all three matchups thanks to the pairs of Marcelo Locatelli/Joao Souto, Odyr Cruz/Pau Martin Sole, and Nathanial Cherry/Jacob Cersosimo.

The singles competition saw continued dominance as SCSU won all six matchups. Marcelo Locatelli, Pau Martin Sole, Odyr Cruz, Lucas Norbiato, Nathanial Cherry and Jacob Cersosimo all won their matchups against the Augustana Tennis team.

Next up for the men’s tennis team is Colorado Mesa University in Grand Island, Nebraska on March 4 next Friday. This will be the first time of the season that the Tennis team will be on the road. They will look to extend their winning streak to six and continue to build on their strong start to the season.
