The Huskies start the 2015-2016 hockey season with nine freshmen on their roster. With players, including a NHL draft pick (Borgen) and a USHL Rookie of the Year award winner (Jackson), the team is adding some exciting new talent to the locker room.

Jacob Benson

Position: Forward
Previous Team: Dubuque Fighting Saints – USHL
Hometown: Grand Forks, North Dakota
Most memorable hockey experience: Winning state junior year and a bronze medal in Russia with Dubuque, he said.
Intended major: Business

Most looking forward to being at SCSU:

“Starting a new journey with a great group of guys,” he said.

Will Borgen

Position: Defense
Previous Team: Omaha – USHL
Hometown: Moorhead, Minnesota
Most memorable hockey experience: Section championship sophomore year against Brainerd, he said.

Most looking forward to being at SCSU:

“Hockey season.”

Mikey Eyssimont

Hometown: Littleton, Colorado
Most memorable hockey experience: “Winning the Clark Cup last year,” he said.

Most looking forward to being at SCSU:

“The hockey season and playing the teams I grew up watching,” he said.

Robby Jackson

Clark Kuster

Most memorable hockey experience: “Winning the state hockey championship in Missouri,” he said.

“Winning the national championship with a bunch of great guys,” he said.

Jon Lizotte

“All of the new experiences that college has to offer through school and hockey,” he said.

Patrick Newell

Most memorable hockey experience: “Winning the Clark Cup championship in the USHL two years ago,” he said.

Jimmy Schuldt

Hometown: Minnetonka, Minnesota
Most memorable hockey experience: “Hockey Day Minnesota in Minnetonka, beat Duluth East 9-3 on FSN,” he said.

Most looking forward to being at SCSU:

Home games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, the Minnesota Cup and playing rivalry games, he said.

David Zevnik

Hometown: Lakeville, Minnesota
Most memorable hockey experience: Winning the high school state hockey tournament 2011, 2012 and 2013, he said.
Intended major: Finance

Most looking forward to being at SCSU:

The hockey season and meeting new people, he said.

The men’s hockey team will have their first home game against University of Alberta on Oct. 3 in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Maddie MacFarlane is a senior at St. Cloud State. She is majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Photojournalism and a minor in Graphic Design. In addition to the University Chronicle, MacFarlane works for the SCSU Athletics department as a photographer and is the Creative Services intern at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
