Downpour on Mainstreet, rescheduled for Wednesday

This past Wednesday, constant heavy rain and thunderstorms flooded SCSU’s campus as well central Minnesota ensuing terrible road conditions as well as the cancellation of one of the biggest events held on the campus of St. Cloud State University, Mainstreet.

By 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, hundreds of clubs, organizations, companies, and even political party representatives flooded into the center of campus with banners, tables and all types of memorabilia, display items, sign up sheets and flyers all with the intention to recruit students involvement. Unfortunately, by 11:00 a.m. the entirety of the population crowding Main street were forced to pack up quickly and bolt to the nearest building to avoid the storm.

A once crowded and buzzing area on campus now left barren and very, very wet. Many student clubs and organizations expressed growing concern towards the unfortunate cancelation due to the fact that Main Street is a big recruiting day for them and if not rescheduled, many of them may see a significant plunge in involvement. But not to worry, the Campus Involvement department has been one step ahead of the game for the past ten years.

“When we schedule Main Street, we always schedule a rain date for the following week, on Wednesday. This year’s rain date is scheduled for September 10th and we plan on utilizing it. Everything will be the same; check-in will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. the event will start at 10:00 a.m. and go until 3:00 p.m.”, said campus involvement spokesperson.

“This is the first time that the rain day had been utilized in 10 years, so it really was a recorded breaking day for rainfall and for the event itself,” said campus involvement spokesperson. “ Typically we have 10,000-15,000 people that come through the event every year on a typical nice and sunny day, this year the involvement of student services, campus services, clubs and organizations went up this year, we had 253 booths set up through the Atwood mall,” said campus involvement spokesperson.

In light of that information, the importance of the rain date is of extreme importance, canceling Main Street all together is quite simply out of the question, so with that being said, this Wednesday September 10th, Main Street round 2 will kick off at 10:00 a.m. Also, be sure to register or re-register if you are a club or organization that is interested in having a booth main street with campus involvement before the event.
