Foot Pursuit and Felony Arrest

Just past midnight on Oct. 19, officers of the St. Cloud Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Columbia Avenue North East and 1st Street North East.

The officers initiated the traffic stop after they recognized the driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Jonathan Steven Schneider of Sartell, as having active felony warrants related to a controlled substance violation.

After initiating the stop, Schneider stopped the vehicle and immediately got out and took off on foot.

While being pursued, the officers lost Schneider in the neighborhood. After being unable to locate Schneider, a perimeter was set up and a Benton County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit was sent to assist.

The K9 unit was able to successfully track and apprehend Schneider who was found hiding under a trailer in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue North East around 20 minutes after the initial stop was initiated.

Schneider was transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained during the pursuit/arrest and later taken to the Benton County Jail.

Schneider was held for court on the warrant and charged with fleeing police on foot.

At both residences officers located damage to the house and to the vehicles parked in the driveways that is consistent with gunshots.
