I Could Not Plan This: An Emotionally Loaded Rap Album

A & E/Music/Reviews by

Today’s rap and hip-hop genre is filled with young individuals who write their lines out of passion while knowing the odds of going mainstream are against them. Mark Laurence Richard Jr. better known as Witt Lowry, was once among those aspiring artists. In a way, he still is. With each album release, Witt’s followings have grown, yet he still has not signed with a record label. Witt’s success started in 2014 with the release of Kindest Regards. At the time, the album was officially released for free on datpiff as well as being posted to his YouTube channel. In 2015 his album Dreaming With Our Eyes Open went straight to iTunes, but he continued to support free streaming on his official YouTube and Soundcloud. He stuck to the same formula for his new album I Could Not Plan This and the positive feedback on his YouTube and Soundcloud converted into…

Kendrick Lamar’s new album: what we know and what to expect

Lifestyle/Music by

After releasing the EP untitled unmastered in early 2016, rap and music fans alike have been starving for new music by the king of the rap game – Kendrick Lamar. And, in a surprise, he has recently released two amazing singles, and has announced an album that will be released on April 7. On March 23, the rap industry was shook up, as Kendrick Lamar dropped a new track out of nowhere. That morning, Kendrick had deleted all of his prior Instagram posts, and he uploaded a single image with the Roman numeral “IV”, which many thought signified that his fourth album would be coming. Instead, that night, Kendrick dropped a new track titled, “The Heart Part Four.” This song was one of Kendrick’s most unique that he has ever released. The song starts off with an easy-going, pop type of vibe. After the first chorus, the beat switches to…

More Drake, more substance, more Life!

A & E/Lifestyle/Music/Reviews by

After announcing ‘More Life’ on his birthday back in October, Drake released one of the most highly anticipated projects of the year last Saturday. The 22-song project, which Drake has insisted on calling a playlist rather than an album, lived up to the hype and delivered what I believe will turn out to be one of Drake’s best projects when his career is said and done. ‘More Life’ uses instrumental styles from all around the globe. Drake has never been shy when it comes to singing or rapping about his personal life and his problems with relationships and trust issues. On this playlist, we see Drake at his most vulnerable state debatably since Take Care, while also delivering a plethora of bars in the process. Drake focuses on his prior strengths from past projects as well as incorporating a new, almost revolutionary style that, when it all comes together, gives…

Elvis Presley, Born to Music

The Great White Whale when it comes to forming new habits, for most people, is exercise. Along with eating your vegetables, meditation, getting good sleep and quitting smoking, exercise is probably the most important habit change anyone can make. And yet, most people struggle with creating a lasting exercise habit. The solution is to replace the “exercise” habit with play. Remember what it was like to go outside as a child? I do, because I watch my kids every day. They run around, pretending they’re warriors and wizards, ride their bikes like they’re flying, swing like they’re about to take off for the stars. Kids don’t care about what they “should” do … all they want to do is have fun. And so they play.

Do you like Nirvana?

I think most of us have a tendency to do as much as we possibly can. But doing less might be better. When we go to a great restaurant, we want to try all the dishes, eat as much of the delicious food as we can. And we leave overstuffed, sometimes painfully so, and our waistlines expand. When I go for a run, often I’ll want to run as far or as hard as I can … and then I’m exhausted, and less likely to want to run tomorrow. When we go on a trip to a new country, we want to see everything, do as much as possible, and that leaves us exhausted. When we work or read online, we go from one task to the next, continuously, quitting only when we’re spent, well past what might be healthy for us. How can we counter the tendency to want…
