BREAKING: St. Cloud Police Department takes former SCSU student into custody

Update as of 4:06 p.m.:

According to a press release from the St. Cloud Police Department (SCPD), the SCPD was notified of threatening statements about a bomb that also referenced in St. Cloud City Hall. Officers responded to City Hall and found a bag belonging to the suspect. The bag did not contain any explosive devices.

Officers found the suspect at Atwood Hall on the St. Cloud State University (SCSU) campus and was arrested without incident, according to the press release.

The press release said the suspect is not currently a student at SCSU.

A person who answered the phone at Stearns County Jail confirmed that the person who was arrested is Abdalle Ege.

Ege is charged with making terroristic threats according to an earlier version of the Stearns County Jail roster.

Ege’s page was taken down because his name was misspelled but will be updated, according to the person who answered the phone at Stearns County Jail.

The SCPD and the FBI are currently working together regarding the incident, according to the press release and confirmed by a spokesperson for the FBI.

The FBI spokesperson said they could not speak about if the FBI had previous plans to speak to Ege prior to this incident.

According to both the press release and SCSU Public Safety, there is no threat to public safety at this time.

First update as of 12:55 p.m.:

A former student of St. Cloud State University was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 11 on SCSU campus, according to SCSU Public Safety Supervisor David Schnettler. The alleged perpetrator had an agreement to meet with the FBI on the SCSU campus for an unrelated matter but was then found making threats against St. Cloud City Hall on a Facebook post earlier in the day. The post included the statement, “I have a bag somewhere in city hall saint cloud.”

The FBI notified SCSU Public Safety once they were aware of the threats.

This story is still unfolding and University Chronicle will update with new information as it becomes known.

*Correction: A previous version of this article said the FBI took a former student into custody.*
