Authorities identify bodies found on Mississippi River

in News by

Over the weekend, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body of a man found on the West Bank of the Mississippi River as 39-year-old Michael Hennager of Waite Park.

Hennager’s body was discovered on Jan. 31 when authorities responded to a call of another body found near the same area. A passerby found Hannah Udvig, 21, of St. Cloud on the ice near the Granite City Crossing Bridge.

Authorities do not believe the two incidents are related.

The Waite Park Police Department received a missing person report for Hennager on Jan. 6 from the group home he lived in. Authorities are not suspecting foul play in the cause and manner in his death. They said Hennager’s injuries were consistent with a fall from the height of the bridge to where he was found.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Cloud Police Department are currently investigating Udvig’s death. The preliminary autopsy results show she died from injuries consistent with a fall; authorities believe Udvig either fell or jumped from the bridge.

A GoFundMe page was created to help pay for Udvig’s funeral costs and her young daughter’s future. According to the page, her daughter is one and half years old and Udvig was also engaged. Over the weekend, 170 people raised $9,160 in four days.

Investigators are asking to speak with anyone who may have been on or near the bridge around 1:00 a.m. on Jan. 31. Witnesses should call the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at 320-251-4240 and request to speak with an investigator.
